Four
years ago 23 year old Jessica Belle picked up a guitar for the first time and
within a few months, embarked on a musical journey that has seen this talent
from the Central Coast of NSW, team up with some of A ustralia’s
most respected and credible songwriters, scoop up a number of prestigious songwriting awards and make a deep impression in the country music scene.
Jess is no
stranger to songwriting and
performing with a strong musical streak running through the family from her
mother Patty Towers performing in a band in Sydney for years, to her uncle
Doug Towers whom she recorded a duet with on her first album Just Walk Away,
her first songwriting effort, produced by renowned country guitarist and
fledgling producer, Glenn Hannah. Jess also credits artists such as Patti
Griffin, Kathleen Edwards, Lucinda Williams as having a profound influence
on her songwriting. The album’s title track received rave reviews on radio
and saw Jess become firmly entrenched as one of the country music
industry’s most gifted new songwriters.
In 2006, after becoming a finalist in both
the Pacific Songwriting Competition and the Telstra Road to Tamworth, Jess
spent a lot of time over in the United States travelling to country
music’s heartlands in Nashville, Memphis and Austin Texas gaining
inspiration for her second album.
The chance meeting Jess had with Bill
Chambers in 2003, who was having lunch at the café Jess worked at, resulted
in him doing a duet with her, No Longer Mine, for the first album and so
impressed was he with the talents of the young singer/songwriter that he put
his hand up to record and produce her second.
Recently completed at Bill Chambers Music
Studio on the Central Coast, this follow up album titled, Free All Year,
sees a more musically mature Jessica Belle emerge featuring ten original
songs and has special guests appearing such as Kasey Chambers, singer/songwriting
great Shane Nicholson, Brisbane singer songwriter Michael Muchow and
features a brilliant duet with Bill Chambers.
